LUDINGTON, MI -- Memorial Medical Center in Ludington will begin its renovation project on June 18.

The board voted unanimously to update and expand the facility, which was built in 1967. CEO Mark Vipperman noted the emergency department as an example of the much needed expansion, saying that the department now serves twice as many patients as it was designed for.

The plans include expansion and remodeling of the surgery and emergency areas as well as a more visible public entrance on the south side of the building facing US-10. Outpatient services such as cardiopulmonary, laboratory and medical imaging will be enhanced as well.

The estimated $14.7 million dollar project will finish in late 2013.
