OSCODA COUNTY -- An Oscoda County 5th grader was suspended after he brought marijuana laced rock candy to school and gave it to several students.
Gary Wood, Superintendent of Mio AuSable schools says this all happened on Wednesday and that about 9 students tried the pot candy.
A letter was sent home Thursday to parents explaining the incident. Below is a portion of that letter:
"This incident brings to the forefront the dangers children face growing up in society today. Please support our students and staff by talking to your children about the dangers of taking and consuming things given to them by others," wrote Wood. To read the full letter click here.
It's unclear if the students knew what was in the candy.
The Oscoda County Sheriff says they have talked with all the parents of the students involved and have sent the candy to the lab for testing.
One parent told 7 & 4 news that they are taking their child to the doctor for testing on their own.
