CHEBOYGAN -- Chanting "save our hospital"  hundreds of people turned out for a rally Monday night to show support for re-opening Cheboygan Memorial Hospital.

Many of those at the rally were part of the 300 workers who are now without jobs

Cheboygan Memorial closed its doors on April 3rd.

CMH officials say the problem was with recertification requirements and licensure of its emergency services and outpatient surgery area.

The Center for Medicare Services (CMS) was unwilling to grant a waiver to allow McLaren Health Care to immediately operate those areas as planned without additional surveys being completed.

The closure came just days after a a judge with the Eastern District of Michigan U.S. Bankruptcy Court approved the sale of Cheboygan to McLaren.
