LEELANAU COUNTY, MI -- The 911 Wellness Foundation is putting the spotlight on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and its effect on emergency dispatchers.
The Foundation's mission is to foster optimal health, performance and quality of life for our nation's 911 dispatchers.
The foundation calls these dispatchers the first first responders when citizens seek emergency help.
In Leelanau County, dispatchers are offered a number of services designed to combat PTSD.
“We deal with some professional agencies here in Michigan that will sit with the individual and help them identify what their trigger points are...right now the trigger point might be that they have small kids...so when they take 911 calls where children are involved...it could be a trigger for them,” said Tom Skowronski, Director of Emergency Management and 911 in Leelanau County.
