A robber struck a store in one of the area's busiest business districts.

TRAVERSE CITY -- The search is on for a man who held up a hunting and fishing store clerk at gunpoint. Deputies say a man with a black Everlast hoodie, dark hat and extremely oversized sunglasses robbed Gander Mountain around 6:00 p.m. Thursday night.

Sheriff's investigators say the man walked up to the counter showing the cashier a note and partially displayed what appeared to be a black handgun.  The subject then took the till to the cash register and ran out. No one was injured during the incident. We're told he headed south towards Horizon Cinemas.

Deputies are still looking for the suspect at this time. Investigators say the suspect was caught on surveillance video and they hope to use those images to catch the suspect if he is not caught near the scene.

A K-9 unit was brought out to try and track the suspect. After the armed robbery, several deputies rushed over to Kohl's and emptied the store with guns drawn looking for the suspect. He was not found and customers have been allowed back in the store.

The suspect is about 5'9'' tall, medium build. If anyone has information please contact the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office at 231-995-5000 or Silent Observer at 231-947-TIPS
