7&4 news sat down for a live interview with Jed Jaworski from Michigan's Firewise program to talk about how to make your home fire resistent, as well as your community, township, and neighborhood BEFORE a wildfire strikes. The point being that once smoke is in the air, it's too late, and steps taken before a wildfire breaks out could save your home, and maybe your neighbor's as well. It's a stark reminder, the deadliest wildfire in U.S. history happened about 80 miles from Traverse City in Northeast Wisconsin in 1871, with over 1,500 people killed. It can happen and steps taken early can prevent loss of life and property.  For more information on how to learn to protect your property or your neighborhood and get involved, contact Jed at NORTHERN MICHIGAN -- jawors30@msu.edu or call him at (231)-889-4277.
