LEELANAU CO. -- A former Traverse City Area Public School teacher who admitted to sexually assaulting a student was sentenced to a minimum of 23 months in prison Wednesday.  She could spend a maximum of ten years.

Lisa Placek pleaded guilty earlier this month to one-count of Criminal Sexual Conduct/Assault with Intent to Commit Sexual Penetration.

During the sentencing Placek told the judge she "failed victim as a teacher and a mentor."

Placek assaulted a 15-year-old boy off school grounds during Christmas break.  She taught Language Arts and French at TCAPS, as well as coached volleyball.
