GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY -- "Clean up & Green up" --that was the purpose of a free community-wide recycle and reuse event in Traverse City Sunday.

We may have lost an hour of sleep Sunday because of Day Light Saving Time, but that didn't stop folks from waking up extra early to do some major recycling.

The "Clean Up & Green Up" event encourages people to help to preserve the environment -- by bringing in difficult-to-recycle items. TV's, microwaves, mattresses, cell phones and tires were among the most popular items recycled.

Organizers say by 10:00am on Sunday, already more than 200 cars had shown up at the American Waste Facility to drop off items.
