"Project 231" captures the individual beauty of women in area code 231

AREA CODE 231 -- The death of her mother turned Sarah Armstrong's life upside down. "She was an incredible person," Armstrong said. "I needed a creative outlet... to keep myself from being inside and being sad. This is a way to be happy for me."

Armstrong's happiness now comes through her camera lens. She's capturing 231 women's individual beauty who call area code 231 home.

"We live in a beautiful area and I wanted to showcase the beautiful women who live here," Armstrong said.

From the Mackinac Bridge to Frankfort to Cadillac to Fishtown, the landscapes of area code 231 are being showcased, along with beautiful, inspirational women of all ages.

"Meeting the women was my favorite part," Armstrong said. "Everybody had a story and everybody had something to say... It was really touching."

After searching for women on Facebook, the overwhelming response gave Armstrong a new sense of excitement, and a renewed zest for life. Each woman in "Project 231" was given the chance to pose in a way that made them feel the most beautiful. As a result, Armstrong was able to see the beauty in her life, as well as bring out the unique beauty in these not so ordinary women.

"I just wanted to make people feel good about themselves, and in turn, feel good about what I'm doing," Armstrong said. "We really have some incredible people who live here."

Once finished, "Project 231" will be available at www.lulu.com, or on Armstrongs Facebook Page. Each softcover book will be between $30 and $40 and hardcover copies will be between $45 and $55.
