The GOP Presidential Candidate will meet with supporters Thursday.
TRAVERSE CITY -- Despite being dogged with new allegations of sexual harassment, Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain is continuing his campaigning with an appearance Thursday in Traverse City.
Cain is scheduled to appear for a “meet and greet” at Streeter’s Entertainment and Banquet Center, 1669 S. Garfield, at 8 p.m. The center will open at 7 p.m. and the event is free.
The head of the Republican party for Grand Traverse County, David Barr, sat down with 7&4's Marc Schollett and Diana Fairbanks Wednesday on 7&4 News at 5. Local reaction to the visit on our Facebook page has largely been critical of Cain.
“Who cares, really?” said Gary Gokee on our Facebook page.
“This man’s values are bought and paid for by the Koch brothers,” said Molly Hayes-Green, referring to the billionaire brothers David and Charles Koch of energy conglomerate Koch Industries.
More than 330 people have voted in our online poll about Cain's visit. More than half, 52-percent, chose "Who cares about this guy?". Those who are going to the event and support Cain and those who can't make the event are tied at 23-percent in the poll.
Cain, whose campaign momentum has been interrupted by a series of allegations accusing the former pizza restaurant chain CEO of sexual harassment, has several campaign stops scheduled in Michigan, including Ypsilanti, Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids.
One of Cain’s accusers, Karen Kraushaar, is a native of Ann Arbor and was recently identified by an online news organization as one of two women who received settlements from the National Restaurant Association when she worked there and Cain was her boss, writes the Detroit Free Press.
Four women have levied allegations of sexual harassment against Cain, all from when he was with the National Restaurant Association during the 1990s. Cain denies sexually harassing anyone.
Bloggers writing for the Huffington Post are saying that Cain’s campaign chief of staff, Mark Block, has badly managed the entire affair. The Cain campaign has spread the blame for maligning his efforts to seek the Republican nomination for president on a broad conspiracy that includes the political publication Politico, and the “Democrat machine,” writes Michael Gerson for the Washington Post.
