A perk Boyne's offering for their seasonal employees and full-time staff is free or reduced daycare
BOYNE MOUNTAIN, MI -- With winter fast-approaching, local businesses are in the full swing of things trying to get people hired for their seasonal jobs.
Boyne is one of them, but this year, they've added an additional perk for their employee's families.
"There are a great variety of positions that are available," said Boyne Mountain Marketing Director Erin Ernst.
Boyne needs lift operators, retail store employees, desk attendants, and even full-time, year-long staff.
“A lot of our positions are seasonal at this time, but there are opportunities for people to stay on to maybe cross over to other departments, so certainly these are options, as well if somebody's looking into year round opportunities," said Ernst.
Thursday and Friday, you'll have the opportunity to find a one of 300 available jobs that could pay from minimum wage to more than $16 per hour.
Boyne's having two job fairs: Thursday at Heather Highlands from 3pm to 5pm and Friday, at Boyne Mountain, from 3pm to 5 pm.
About 230 people need to be hired at Boyne Mountain, and for parents, this might be the icing on the cake.
Boyne is going to try something new. They’re going to add an extra incentive for families of their employees. If you have a child, the huge bonus at Boyne Mountain is daycare offered for free.
"Most daycare fees would more than take away their entire salary," said Diane Wildfong.
No more dishing out big bucks. Diane Wildfong, who taught first through fifth graders for 34 years, most recently at Kalkaska Public Schools, has been hired to run the just-opened educational daycare at Boyne Mountain.
Employees who make less than $14 get free day care, those who make $14.01 to $16 an hour pay $8 dollars a day, and if an employee makes more than $16, it'll cost $16 a day.
"This is educational daycare, with an emphasis of getting them ready for kindergarten, so we do developmental fun from 3 months to 3 years old, then they move into a 3 to 5 year old readiness program, all of our staff are certified," explained Wildfong.
Wildfong will teach a state-based education, focusing on science, math, and literature. So far it has been a hit -- 65 employees are using it. The center is open from 6 in the morning until 10 at night.
“We just want to make it affordable for everyone and really it just opens a lot of doors for people to rejoin the workforce," said Ernst.
