Hundreds gather for creepy camping

"Camping is fun but in October?

The sixth annual Harvest Festival at Charters Traverse City State Park last weekend saw a record amount of ghouls, goblins and campers!

Park Ranger Stephanie Rosinski wasimpressed by the turn out. "Our first year we had seventeen camps in the campground and it was rainy, cold weather and this year we had rainy cold weather again but it's the most people we've ever had. I think one hundred and eighty seven camps plus a lot of day visitors."

Each campsite was decorated with deadly demons, ghastly goblins and spooky spider webs.

"We have everyone come down, all ages and they dress up for Halloween and we do costume judging and then we go trick or treating." Stephanie said.

The Grand Traverse County Sheriff's association also contributed to the fun and with 211lbs of potatoes made french fries and passed them out to fellow campers.

With activities like pumpkin carving, face painting, and scavenger hunts it's a weekend that the whole family can enjoy.

Traverse State Park's Harvest Festival may be over this year but it's not too late to put it on your calendar for next year.

"We've had people that have been here from year one and it spreads by word of mouth and it seems like every year someone says, "I was here last year and we came back with three more people this year so it's a great event". Said Ranger Rosinski.
