Safes stolen from Halloween costume stores
An investigation into a pair of break-ins at Halloween costume stores is underway in northern Michigan.
The Halloween Superstores in both Traverse City and Petoskey have been broken into this week, the owner says several thousand dollars in cash and merchandise has been stolen.
It all started Monday night in Traverse City, the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office says someone broke into the back door and dragged out two heavy safes.
Tuesday night, someone broke into the Petoskey location and stole the safe there.
Halloween Superstore employee, Joe Richie says, "Just the fact that somebody out there didn't work for it, took the easy way out and took from someone else."
Investigators believe whoever did this had some knowledge of how the costume shops operate and knew exactly where the safes would be. The first step for police will be to interview all employees and ex-employees.
