TRAVERSE CITY -- About a year ago, Traverse City was named one of only ten Coast Guard Cities in the nation... but community members want more.
Commander Joseph Buzzella addressed the Mayor and the City Commission earlier this week asking for a little more publicity.
They hope to have a Commission appointed to promote the new title.
Commander Buzzella said, "I think it will build pride and it will also promote the congressional recognition that Traverse City is a Coast Guard city. Congress voted it in last year, it's congressional law and there's not many in the country, and this is quite an honor."
They even have plans to develop a healthy rivalry with the other Coast Guard City in the state, Grand Haven.
