Fire damages home, 3 cats saved

TRAVERSE CITY, MI -- Traverse City firefighters were busy fighting flames at a three story apartment house Sunday morning.

Officials said the fire started shortly after 9 a.m. in the basement of a home on West 9th Street.

Nobody was injured in the fire. There was heavy smoke damage throughout the house. Most of the fire damage was contained to the back of the structure.

There were three cats rescued form the burning home.

Fire victims were assisted by Critical Incident Response Team of Northern Michigan and the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
