A group of northern Michigan volunteers is calling their recent trip to Joplin, Missouri the experience of a lifetime.

The devastating tornado ripped through Joplin on May 22nd. It destroyed houses, businesses, hospitals, and even wiped out the entire school district.

So this past week, volunteers from Bell Tower Reformed Church in Ellsworth, made it their mission to help kids get ready for this upcoming school year.

Volunteer Kari Groll says, "We did everything from haul materials to recycle center, put tables together, we hauled furniture supplies, many of us spent most of our time working in the libraries.”

Check out the video above to hear even more details of what the volunteers witnessed in Joplin and why they say it was something they will never forget.
