Two periods of thunderstorms impacted Northern Michigan on Sunday leaving some damage in their wake. Early Sunday afternoon, locations in Cheboygan County were nailed as a severe thunderstorm blew up dumping golf ball size hail around Indian River, and the southern shores of Burt Lake.

Later Sunday evening, intense thunderstorms that produced tornadoes in Wisconsin, raced across Lake Michigan, with the strongest storms rolling over Antrim/Kalkaska counties around 10 p.m. Sunday night. The National Weather Service reported numerous trees down in the Alden area, with a viewer e-mailing the 7&4 Storm Team from Rapid City to report a tree that fell on their home. Mancelona was also hard hit with reports of a few trees and power lines down in that community.

The storm system responsible for the severe weather will still bring a few showers or thunderstorms to Northern Michigan throughout Monday before exiting to the southeast. It appears that the severe weather threat over Northern Michigan is very slim Monday. Cooler weather arrives this week, with high temperatures in the upper-50'/low-60's.
