It's a tragic reminder of the importance of organ donation.

Last week we reported a story about five year old Harrison Mack.  Saturday while surrounded by friends, family, and hospital staff Harrison sadly passed away.

Harrison was at the University of Michigan Hospital awaiting a heart transplant and died due to complications surrounding the extensive wait.

Harrison's family would like to use this opportunity to promote awareness of organ donation.

April is "Donate Life" month.  The Secretary of State is trying to boost Michigan's organ donor registry.  Michigan ranks near the bottom of the country in organ donation registrations.   Less than one-third of the state's adult population has registered with the Michigan Organ Donor Registry.

"With 3,000 people on the waiting list for organs, this is a matter of life and death," said Secretary of State Ruth Johnson. "This demands a new approach, a new way of thinking.  We can and will do better.  I would encourage every Michigan resident to sign up as a potential donor.  You can save lives.  You can make a difference."

Gift of Life Michigan is the state's certified, full-service organ recovery organization.  You can contact the agency at 1-800-482-4881 or by CLICKING HERE.

Harrison's memorial service will be Thursday at St. Joan of Arc on Heatherdowns Blvd. in Toledo, Ohio.  The mass will start at 11 a.m., however the family will be there at 10 if anyone would like to visit.

If you would like to leave a message for Harrison's family you can leave a comment below and we will make sure they are forwarded.
