PETOSKEY, MI -- When Veterans return from war, the fight on the battlefield may be over, but sometimes new challenges crop up at home.

Now a group of women in Petoskey is fighting to change that.

"There’s a group of us who feel so strongly for the Vet's and what they do for our country," said Margie Krussell.

“It brings tears, and such joys, it's unbelievable," said Marcie Newton

"It's a cause so near, and so dear to my heart," said Cathy Luginbuhl

Cathy Luginbuhl, Marcie Newton, and Margie Krussell.  Three Emmet County women taking on a mission that can be completed only by simple generosity.

“Very, very proud of our military.  Very, very excited to be a part of this project.  We feel that something so small can grow so big, so fast, and everything we do is from our hearts, because we've had people that have served," said Newton.

The three ladies created Angel Ambassadors.  The idea originated as a discussion at a restaurant seven months ago.  The three ladies brainstormed, and notes were taken on a bar napkin.  Today, the non-profit charity is here to serve the needs of veterans and their families.

"If something happens to them, and insurance isn't there, the V-A can't help them, we're here, call us, write us, tell us what you need, and if there's any way we can help you out, we will do it," said Krussell.

The plan is to help with the things that aren't covered for those who have served.  Insurance will take care of doctor's appointments, but what if you can't afford the gas to get there.  A Veteran may have lost his leg in battle, but what if he can't get a wheelchair into his own house.  Angel Ambassadors will give gas cards and build ramps.

“It truly is a labor of love.  We are all very busy and very excited and hope that this turns out to be a real large benefit to our veterans," said Luginbuhl.

“We're calling ourselves the need-meeters, because we want to meet the needs of all Veterans, and their families, and their needs," said Newton.

“We want them to know we love them as much as anybody!" said Krussell.

Margie, Marcie, and Cathy hope by doing their thing, creating Angel Ambassadors, will make a difference for many.

Angel Ambassadors is a non-profit organization and relies on your help to help others.

The group is having its first fundraiser November 6th at the Emmet County Fairgrounds from 12-9.

Four bands will perform, along with a day fulfilled with plenty of activities.

A $10 donation will be taken at the door.
