LUDINGTON -- The S.S. Badger is adding an additional Lake Michigan crossing to its schedule Wednesday night due to an increase in commercial truck demand.

There are four oversize windtowers trucks scheduled for the 12:55 am departure out of Manitowoc.   The trucks will be transporting wind towers from Tower Tech Systems in Manitowoc, WI to Altoona, PA.

Each huge wind towerload is up to 170 feet long, 15' feet wide and 250,000 lbs (more than the weight of 3 normal tractor-trailers).

"We are told by our commercial truck passengers that the Badger saves them both time and money compared to driving," said Lynda Matson, Vice President of Customer Service and Marketing. "Commercial truck traffic for the 2010 sailing season is up significantly compared to last year."

The special sailing will depart Ludington, MI at 8:30pm (et) and arrive in Manitowoc, WI at 11:30pm (ct).  The Badger will then be reloaded and depart from Manitowoc at 12:55am (ct) and arrive in Ludington at 5:55am (et).
