We'll visit a different restaurant each day this week
MARQUETTE -- Maybe it's the fresh ingredients, maybe it's the friendly staff; maybe it's the special crust. Whatever it is, Aubree's Pizza is a dining gem.
Aubree's is celebrating its fourth anniversary in Marquette this week, so compared to the other pizza shops in the competition, it's just a baby.
"I'm just thrilled to be nominated with some of these other pizza places," says owner, Bryan French. "Some of them have been around so long, and we're the new kids on the block."
Doesn't matter, lunch or dinner, Aubree's is packed. Tom Shay is in town from Iowa, and after hearing about the competition, he just had to try Aubree's pizza.
"Last night, listening to your newscast on the best pizza in the U.P., we heard that you were going to Aubree's tomorrow, and that was local, close enough for us to go to lunch. We decided to try it!" says Shay.
Aubree's has a big city feel and big city reputation in small-town USA. Fresh toppings, a five-cheese blend, and giant ladle of sauce pass through a 500 degree oven, and what comes out is a pizza that's...
"Fresh, filling, and definitely top quality," French says.
And after the pizza's cooked, Aubree's puts its signature touch on the crust.
"You can get a butter cheese crust, you can get a ranch crust, you can get a Cajun crust, you can get a sesame seed crust, you can get a poppy seed crust, and there's probably a couple more I can't think of right now," explains pizza chef, Mike Sarracco.
"That final cherry on top, that final zing with your pizza," French agrees.
Aubree's is the only one of the five in the competition with more than one location. Its other four pizza shops are downstate.
Friday is the grand finale of pizza week. We'll be heading to the Copper Country to see what The Ambassador has to offer.
