BENZIE COUNTY -- It was a solemn day in Northern Michigan as hundreds gathered at the funeral of a marine who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

22-year old Corporal Paul Miller was killed in Afghanistan on July 19th. Thursday morning hundreds gathered at Lake Anne Methodist Church to say goodbye and honor his memory as a local hero. Through the tears, those who spoke at the funeral shared memories. One of Corporal Miller’s high school teachers says he loved to skateboard and snowboard, but even at a young age he wanted to be a Marine.

From the church the procession took Corporal Miller to Memorial Gardens in Traverse City where he was laid to rest.
