A metro-Detroit couple has been charged with stealing hybrid information from General Motors.

The husband and wife, who live in Troy, north of Detroit, were arraigned Thursday.

Shanshan Du and Yu Qin face numerous charges including unauthorized possession of trade secrets, wire fraud, and obstruction of justice.

Federal investigators say Shanshan Du worked on hybrid motor technology for GM.  The indictment against her claims she started downloading thousands of pages of secret information after the automaker offered her a buyout in 2005.  She is accused of then trying to sell the information.

Family members tell WDIV it is all a misunderstanding, and the couple will be cleared.
