KINCHELOE -- The Kinross Correctional Facility in Chippewa County is on high alert after three inmates tried to escape by driving a semi through a gate.
A witness at the scene tells 7 & 4 News one of the inmates was shot and killed, two others are back behind bars.
We are told the prisoner who was shot and killed is Seth Privacky. Privacky, 30, was convicted of killing his parents, brother, brother's girlfriend and his grandfather on November 29, 1998 in Muskegon. Privacky was a teenager at the time of the crime.
The two inmates who were captured during the escape attempt were: Andrew Ross and Brian Davidson.
An employee of the prison has been treated and released for minor injuries.
The Chippewa County Prosecutor says no other inmates escaped and the facility is secure. The inmates apparently jumped a delivery driver and took the semi tractor trailer and drove it into a section of the fence before jumping from the entangled truck and being captured.
Ross and Davidson have been transferred to a segregation unit within a high security prison. General population prisoners within the Kinross Correctional Facility remain in lockdown status. Meals are being served in the housing units Thursday evening and normal kitchen operations will continue Friday.
The damaged fence has been temporarily repaired and will be fully repaired soon.
The Kinross prison is in the town of Kincheloe. The perimeter of the prison is composed of two perimeter chain-link fences monitored with electronic security devices and topped with razor-ribbon wire. The perimeter is patrolled by armed guards.
Kinross is a Level I and II security prison and has the largest fenced area (113 acres currently enclosed) of any state prison in Michigan.
