TRAVERSE CITY -- Organizers of the First Annual Dairy Festival in Traverse City are saying "holy cow" to the success of the event!
The festival, held Sunday at the Village of Grand Traverse Commons, honored the world famous cow Traverse Colantha Walker.
The cow was raised by patients at the former Traverse City State Hospital, producing 200,114 pounds of milk and 7,525 pounds of butterfat in her lifetime.
The festival in Colantha's honor is being called an 'udder' success.
The Traverse City Firefighters Local 646 started the day with a pancake breakfast, raising more than $1,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Moomers said they brought enough ice cream to serve 1,000 scoops and had to go back to their store for more!
There was also live music, hay rides, a parade to Colantha's gravesite, and a grilled cheese competition.
LIl' Bo's, Pearls, The Underground Cheese Cake Company and The Silvertree Deli served their own grilled cheese creations to win over the crowd.
Pearl's won the "People's Choice" award for the best sandwich using just cheese. The Silvertree Deli won the award for the best sandwich using cheese and one additional ingredient.
