"It's really going to ruin our fishing in the state of Michigan and Canada all of our Great Lakes, and it sounds like they're just devastating the areas they are growing," said Jim Henson.
Avid fisherman Jim Henson along with others gathered to hear Attorney General Mike Cox speak on the threat of the Asian carp invasion into the Great Lakes.
Cox's website, stopasaincarp.com aims at addressing the issue.
"We give them contacts on who to call, we give them some ideas on how to right a letter, and we give them all the facts on what to put in the letter," said Cox.
He says immediate action should be taken to prevent the spread of the evasive species from entering the Great Lakes.
"They reproduce at a dramatic rate we know there are some in the bottom of Lake Michigan and if they start swimming up and getting in our rivers we will never be able to roll that back," Cox said.
Recent efforts in Washington to close shipping locks in Chicago have not been successful, Cox also said with billions of dollars and jobs on the line in the Michigan fishing industry, the Obama Administration should quickly take action.
"We're absolutely disappointed, President Bush didn't do much on it and President Obama hasn't done anything on it yet but if the president where to move today to close the locks and say keep the locks closed until we figure out a solution, that would be a tremendous help," said Cox.
President Obama has developed a 5 year $2.2 billion plan for addressing Great Lakes issue.
