Above 40 degree temperatures and those who venture on it are on thin ice at best.
While it's sometimes frozen it's never constant, "Ice is always changing it's just like regular water, because of the waves and the water levels, it's always constantly changing," said Murray.
Petty Officer Todd Murray with the U.S. Coast Guard in Essexville, said the illusion of solidity may be a contributing factor to a recent rash of ice related accidents.
The most recent, a 32-year-old fishermen and a 6-year-old boy fell through the ice on the Saginaw Bay Saturday night, just one mile east of Anderson road in Linwood of Bay County.
Five good Samaritans rushed to their aid but four of them fell through as well.
While no one was hurt, It brings a new warning from the coast guard.
Warmer temperatures present a dangerous situation for them, as well as the people who decided to take to the ice.
Everybody made it out safely, but were treated for hypothermia.
With warmer weather and conditions unstable, taking to the ice is also taking a big risk.
