A Leelanau County school is moving forward with its plan to out-source bussing for its students.

Suttons Bay Public Schools could have to cut spending by 500-thousand dollars next year.  It hopes some of the deficit will be taken care of by joining forces with the Bay Area Transportation Authority.

Tuesday, school leaders and BATA officials met to discuss some of the challenges of the plan and find some solutions.  BATA also took a look at the school's bus fleet.

The next step is to take a look at some side issues, such as how the district will handle field trips and athletic events.

Another meeting is scheduled for February 1.

On a side note, Superintendent Mike Murray has turned down a job offer at a downstate district, saying the timing is not right to leave Suttons Bay, and he looks forward to finding solutions to the challenges the district is facing.
