IRON RIVER -- With Congress in recess, 1st District Representative Bart Stupak is taking this week to tour the southern and western U.P.
Mr. Stupak stopped at the Iron River Senior Center Tuesday to discuss concerns with senior citizens. He also went to the Iron River City Hall to discuss issues with Iron County officials.
Stupak largely discussed health care with senior citizens, reassuring some that a final bill will look different than the one passed by the Senate.
With Iron County officials, the focus was on the economy and the best way to create jobs in the area.
Stupak talked about the economic stimulus plan and how only about one third of the stimulus money has been spent so far.
Iron County is receiving stimulus money and Stupak says he's working on continuing the economic growth.
"Here in Iron County alone, they've been committed about $37 million in different projects; water, sewer, some for law enforcement,” said Rep. Stupak. “Good projects, good paying jobs. But how do we do a better job at accessing it and trying to keep economic employment up in the western U.P.?"
Stupak finished Tuesday with a town hall meeting in Ironwood. He will continue his tour of the western U.P. all this week before heading back to Washington, D.C..
