Reed City leaders announce nearly two million dollars in grants for water system improvements

REED CITY -- The Reed City community is receiving two grants totaling nearly two million dollars.
The awards for $1,939,800 are from the Michigan Strategic Fund Board. The money will be used for improvements to the City's water system and wastewater treatment plant.
According to City Manager George Freeman, the smaller grant of $89,800 will be used to eliminate dead end water mains in Reed City's water system. Freeman said this will result in a more reliable system, better water pressure and higher quality water for the customers.
A three year public/private partnership effort to improve the Wastewater Treatment Plant resulted in the larger grant of $1,850,000. The partnership involves the General Mills Corporation and the State of Michigan on a planned expansion of the Yoplait Reed City Plant.
