TRAVERSE CITY -- It's a place for dogs to run free and play and right now traverse city doesn't have one.

A local group has formed that is rallying for support of a dog park.  Now the city's new Mayor, Chris Bzdock wants to know, do you want one?

If there is enough interest in the idea the Mayor says he will take it to the commission.  Supporters say it could be another way to bring people and pets together in the community.

"I think they need time to run, to be puppies and a walk doesn't always do it and it' shard to train your dog to be off a leash if they can't be off a leash safely somewhere, which I think is really, really important," Explains Amanda Rogers. "They like to be outside too. They just need to be able to meet people.  Dogs need to just be dogs."

Do you think Traverse City should have a dog park?  Leave your comments below.  There is also an online petition that has been started that you can sign.  To find it just click on THIS LINK.
