LANSING (AP) -- Michigan State University will receive $83,806 to measure wind speeds in five areas around the state.

The state says in a release Thursday that the project is designed to assess Michigan's wind energy potential and encourage job growth in that industry.

Michigan State will install anemometers on public safety communications towers in Gratiot, Delta, Antrim, Mason and Hillsdale counties. The new information will help create a wind power map for Michigan, identifying and promoting areas best suited for wind power development.

Data collected in other Midwest states indicates current measurements may underestimate Michigan's wind energy potential.

The project is funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

well it is alot of money to study the wind and by the way there is wind mills all over the country far as storage of this power there is none it is put on the grid for use buy how ever whats it... there is pro and cons to this effort to harness the wind and other sources of energy,, but we must do something or what are we going to do in the future... someday we are going to wake up and are oil is going to be gone. then what as more and more energy is been used IT HAS TO COME FROM SOMEWERE WAKE UP

$83,000.00 plus to study the wind? 5 locations and it costs this much? I don't get it! The more I find out about how our money is being spent the more confused I get! I just can't fathom how MSU can spend that kind of money and justify it. Don't you think they should show us exactly how that money is being used? After all, it is our money!!

By the way, if wind is the answer, why aren't there windmills all over the country and where do you store the power that they generate. On top of that, what is the power source for storing that power??? Wake up people!
