ALDEN -- Less than a week into firearm deer season, buck poles all around are filling up. But, thanks to the aim of hunters, it's been steady work since Sunday morning for local deer processors like the Rouse family in Antrim County.

"They start rolling in around ten o'clock and it's steady from there," said Chris Rouse who has been operating his family-owened processing and taxidermy business for the last ten years. "This year is up from last year and it's looking really good, we're getting a lot of really nice deer coming in."

In the last three days there have been 78 deer brought in. Since the start of bow hunting season, the Rouses' have processed nearly 140 deer. It's a growing trend they hope to see continue at least for the next few weeks.

"It's a tough two weeks but it goes by really fast and we have a lot of fun," Rouse said.

Just to keep up, the small crew has been putting in 14 hour days. Rouse says the business this time of year makes up two-thirds of their annual income.

Firearm deer season runs through November 30. That's followed by late bow hunting and muzzleloader seasons.
