NEAR MANTON -- The victim of a shooting is improving at a hospital in Grand Rapids, while the Wexford County Sheriff's Office continues its investigation.

It happened last Thursday on state land near Manton.

Detectives say 56-year old Edward Hutchinson of Lake City was leaving his blind and getting into his truck when a bullet hit him. After seeing a television report the next day, two area men turned themselves in to Wexford County Detectives.'

The Prosecutor is still awaiting a written report from the Sheriff to determine if charges will be filed. There may also be a wait while a lab determines if the bullets and the gun involved match.

Meanwhile, Hutchinson's condition is getting better.  He was upgraded from critical condition to serious condition Monday.

This is a terrible accident and I am glad to see that the people involved had enough respect to come forward and take responsiblilty and accept punishment, if it is due. There are not enough people like this in the world.
