MARQUETTE -- "Last Saturday night, we passed the bill out of the House.  That's the first time any one of the two chambers have actually passed a health care bill, even though they've been trying since 1912 since Teddy Roosevelt was President," said Congressman Bart Stupak.

It's big news for the almost 50 million Americans who will go to sleep tonight without health insurance.  It's been almost 100 years in the making, and now, it's in the hands of the Senate.

Today at the 2009 Upper Peninsula Health care Conference in Marquette, Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow spelled out for medical professionals the goals of reform:

"To stop the unfair insurance practices, to strengthen Medicare and to lower costs for small businesses and individuals who don't have insurance now.  And it's particularly important to me to make sure that if somebody loses their job, they don't lose their health insurance," said Senator Stabenow.

The Senator offered a statistic that everyday in the United States, 14,000 people wake up with health insurance, then go to bed that night without it.  She doesn't believe that "doing nothing" is an option, because in addition to insuring a greater number of Americans, health care reform could positively affect the job market and the economy as a whole.

"Health care is tied to jobs.  It's tied to economics.  Right now, businesses can't afford health care, or their premiums are going up, so they lay people off, or they can't find insurance that's affordable to them.  And so it's all connected, jobs and health care," Senator Stabenow stated.

Senator Stabenow tells Upper Michigan's Source that the health care reform bill will be the Senate's main focus during the month of December, but it's certainly not going unchallenged.  Republicans argue that it's too expensive and puts too much control in the hands of the government.  And even in a Democrat-controlled Senate, it may be tough to get the 60 votes it needs to pass.

Not all the founding fathers owned slaves, concerned mother, besides it was NOT illegal then, or even considered immoral by MOST people. Many a black persons in Africa even owned slaves back in the days, and alot were captured european white folks! HUH? OMG NOOOOOOO.... Yep hard to believe it wasn't just white folks who were evil BACK then. The fact that the federal gov't, the democratic party and liberals are out of control, and running rampid all over our Constitution doesn't seem to bother the stupid, coolaid drinking morons in this country! Sad, sad, sad....

I plan on going to jail over this

Posted by UNON of Socialists America, Northern MI - Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 11:06 p.m.

I have already set my sights on jail time before paying medical profession a single penny, let the government take care of me that way, 3 meals a day, heat, a bed, and FREE medical if i decide i ever want to see a quacky Dr.
those people that do not want to or cannot go to jail due to families I am urging you if this bill goes to law and is not overturned after the next elections when we get these socialist idiots out of washington to totally abuse the health care system, go into a Dr for every little sniffle, ache and pain, itch etc we can reform the reform the trash they are making us live with by bankrupting it and abusing it, use every physical they allow, every test, make it cost them as much as possible see how much in kickbacks these dummies in washington end up getting when the insurance companies go broke, and Drs offices are filled everyday,I have a pretty big nationwide following right now for my 2 ideas of jail and bankrupting the system together we can defeat this without the socialist congress and senate
UNITED WE STILL STAND...
the congress and senate are playing on what the people have allowed them to get away with previously, kick and scream then forget and move on.we can not forget this bill and move on

Separation of Church and State!

I'd love to see the I.R.S. have a serious talk with Bishop Sample. I suspect his influence over Stupak's amendment and also telling his devoted "flock" how to vote crosses the line. Start taxing churches that have religious leaders who'd rather be in politics!

Healthcare Reform or Political Agenda?

Posted by Sharon N., T.C. - Friday, November 13, 2009 at 10:33 a.m.

As I read this article, I'm dumbfounded by the stupidity and hypocracy of Stabenow!!! She says Healthcare Reform is tied to jobs...YEH...and with the Government Option in play, you're going to put every insurance company out of business - hello - that's millions and millions of jobs LOST!!!!
And, she says businesses can't afford healthcare so they're laying people off...WHAT???...with this Healthcare Reform, Small Businesses will discontinue healthcare to ALL their employees that now have it because it will be cheaper for the business to pay the penalty rather than pay the price it will cost them to offer the new healthcare plan!!!
This Bill is a disaster!!! It will mean that our Government will be taking over an industry that is 1/6th of our national economy!!! You think our economy is in the tank now, wait till this Healthcare Reform goes into affect!! Watch and see how many insurance companies, healthcare providers, healthcare facilities, pharmacheutical companies, and tons of other private & smal businesses close their doors simply because they can't compete against the government. And, and the Government (us) can't afford it either!!!
Folks, if we don't stand up and say NO to our Senators - Levin & Stabenow - loud and clear, we are headed for disaster!!! Especially, especially our seniors and our young people!!!! I don't think this sectors of our population have a clue what's coming down the pipe for them!!!
It is so sad to watch our politicians spew lies and disception to the American people just to further a POLITICAL AGENDA!!! This has nothing to do with FIXING a broken healthcare system, but all to do with a Democratic plan to grow our country into a Government controlled society.
STAND UP & say NO to this Healthcare Bill!!!!

2010, 2010, 2010....... hurry up!

This "bill" is a joke. Time to move on to new ideas and truly deal with the insurance mess, by:
1. Making insurance available over state lines
2. Torte reform.

Let's start with these two things. Getting these things done wouldn't require 2,000 page bill that is intentionally worded to be unreadable- an intentionally misleading bill written by a few people behind closed doors, elected to serve US.(which they forgot long ago). No wonder Congress and Obama approval rates are sitting right around 20%. WHAT A FREEKIN' CIRCUS. What an embarrassment to the great nation of the USA.

Leave My Health Care Alone

The last group of people on the face of the earth is 545 people in the White House, Congress, Senate and Supreme Court. I know many of the left brain controlled community that wants to save the whales and drive green cars as you take 747 jetting all over the globe. If Congress and the Senate want to pass any bill, they should have to follow and participate in the law or plan that is signed into law.

For those of you that think any different you need to look at the founding of our country.
