A Charlevoix County man is in jail after a six hour standoff with Sheriff's Deputies.

The Sheriff says it started about 6 pm Saturday, with a 30 year old man threatening to take his own life. Investigators say the man also wanted to come out of the home in Wilson Township so officers would shoot him.

The Sheriff's office says the man fired a 44 caliber Smith and Wesson about ten times in the direction of officers. But with the help of negotiators the man surrendered shortly after midnight.

No injuries were reported.

Fewins Sympathy

Posted by Neve R. Mind, Traverse City - Sunday, November 15, 2009 at 9:56 a.m.

This happened in Interlochen. Sheriff Fewins and his
posse of fools shot the man dead.....just like he wanted. Glad to know the Charlevoix "boys" have some
class and maybe, even brains.

For those of you who judge without knowing what the hell you're talking about

I can't believe some of the unessesary crap I'm reading here!!! For those of you who are going to critic my spelling, grammar, or word usage - Get a freekin' life! And NO the gun is not for sale and whatever happens with it is none of your business.
I know Matt. He is a smart, loving, caring, funny, talented man with some VERY VERY serious life issues he's been trying to cope with for some time now.
We all agree, and I'm sure now, Matt feels the same. He made a phenominal mistake and in his desperation for someone to hear his unanswered pleas for help and after drinking to try and mask his pain (as many of you do at times, I'm sure) he acted completely irrationally. That's a given! That is HIS cross to bare. However, since everyone is throwing their "opinions" out there, here's mine. It is people like those of you who have no compassion or understanding of what went on that night, and many months leading up to that night, that are also inexcusable and border on criminal ... atleast in my opinion. You are the type of people who push people like Matt over that edge.
I can speak from personal experience, mental illness is a disease. Like cancer or aids ... if left untreated it WILL KILL YOU and possibly others you care about. If not for the people I have around me, loving and supporting me, I would've left this messed up world years ago. This man has lost more in the last year or 2 than most of you will ever experience in your Lily-white lives. He lost a child, He lost 2 grandparents who he was very close to and were some of the last ties he had to his Mom who died when he was young, his home was being threatened with forecloser, his wife (who is now pretending to care) walked out the night before and he has also been dealing with serious, possibly fatal, health issues that he could not get the proper help for. That's just "some" of what he's been dealing with! How much could YOU take in that situation? I'd get drunk too!!!
No, waving a gun around and shooting up HIS OWN house/property was NOT the answer but he was NOT trying to hurt anyone else. He only wanted to hurt himself and make his own severe pain stop. I'm glad for those of you who have never had to feel that desperation and loss-of-self but KNOW THIS! There are going to be alot more people like Matt doing desperate acts such as this if people don't start listening, doing whatever they can to help, and stop judging what you don't know anything about. If you can't find compassion for him...PLEASE see if you can muster up just a little bit for his family and friends who love him unconditionally, try to step into their shoes for a minute and you may realize that it would be better for you to just shut the hell up! They have enough to deal with without your input ... didn't your parents ever teach you that if you can't say anything nice don't say anything, espescially when you really don't have all the facts. PEACE MATT! WE LOVE YOU! and hope you can now get the help you so badly need.
For his sisters, parents, and family, if I can help, I will, just call. In the meantime you're ALL in my prayers ... Love to ya all. Lea
P.S. Thanks to all of you who HAVE shown your support. THAT is what Matt and his family really need now.

WOW TO SAY THAT MATTHEW NEEDS HELP YES HE DOES BUT WAIT A SECOND I THINK ALOT OF YOU PEOPLE ON HER NEED HELP TOO. WOW CRAZY PEOPLE. MATTHEW IS A SWEET AND BEAUTIFUL PERSON AND HEY HERE IS AN IDEA LETS STOP ALL OF THIS BULL HONKY AND UM I DONT KNOW TRY TO HELP GET HIS MENTAL STATUS TO SOMEWHAT RATIONAL AGAIN. WOW I HAVE NEVER EVER IN MY LIFE SEEN SUCH A RUDE DISPLAY BEFORE. WORRING ABOUT WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN TO THE GUN AND HOW LONG HE IS GOING TO JAIL AND ALL THIS CRAP. COME ON PEOPLE WE ARE ALL ADULTS 18 AND ABOVE. INSTEAD OF BITCHING ABOUT WHO WHAT WHERE WHEN AND WHY LETS CONCENTRATE ON HOW TO HELP HIM AND HIS FAMILY OUT. GOSH GROW UP PEOPLE. ALSO I AM GLAD THAT I DONT LIVE NEAR THERE BECAUSE YOU PEOPLE HAVE NO CLUE WHAT MATTERS IN LIFE. REMEMBER THAT IN LIFE YOU SOMETIMES TAKE THE WRONG PATH GOD HAS GIVEN YOU AND YOU FALL FLAT ON YOUR FACE. I KNOW I HAVE MADE MISTAKES AND I AM PROUD TO ADMIT TO IT BECAUSE I LOOK BACK NOW AND SAY HEY I PASSED THE TEST EVEN THOUGH I FELL A TIME OR TWO OR MORE THAN THAT I PUT MY BOOTS ON AND KEPT ON TRUCKING THRU THE MUDD. SO IF YOUR GOING TO JUDGE SOMEONE MAYBE YOU SHOULD LOOK AT YOUR PATHS IN LIFE AND SEE IF YOU HAVE EVER FALLEN BEFORE I AM SURE THAT MANY OF US HAVE. ITS WEATHER WE LEARN SOMETHING FROM THOSE MISTAKES AND TO TRY TO NOT REPEAT THEM AGAIN AND IF WE DO FALL FLAT ON OUR FACE THEN GOD AND OUR LOVED ONES WILL BE THERE TO HELP US GET ON THE RIGHT PATH AGAIN. SORRY IF I MISSPELLED ANY WORDS BUT HEY I AM NOT PERFECT AND GUESS WHAT YOUR NOT PERFECT EITHER BECAUSE THE ONLY PERSON THAT IS PERFECT IS OUR CREATOR AND HE EVEN ADMITS TO HIS MISTAKES DONT BELIEVE ME THE HEY HEARS ANOTHER IDEA TRY PICKING UP A BIBLE AND READING IT SOMETIME. HATE TO READ HEY THEY HAVE THE BIBLE ON CD NOW. ANYWAY NOT MY POINT MY POINT IS TO STOP WORRING ABOUT WHO WHAT WHERE WHEN WHY AND HOW MUCH LETS WORRY ABOUT HELPING OUT MATTHEW BY HELPING FIND THE MEDICAL ATTENTION HE NEEDS. I 2nd what my sister Pam says! Get a life! There are so many people in this world who worry about everything they shouldnt instead of what they should! We all have messed up people in our family! Every single one of us! Some more then others but still we all have family issues and personal stuggles. Worry about what affects you not someone else! Weather someone has mental issues or not they are still a person and have brothers, sisters, mom, dad, FAMILY who cant help but love them and worry about them! Anyone of us could be put in this position at any moment. People with no mental history can snap look at the psychiatrist at Fort Hood...anyone can snap especially with todays world and stresses!

I read your comments and I think that the only person being a jerk is you! First I will note that I DO NOT need an English class so I will make this clear for you... If you do not know the person then mind your own business and keep you comments to yourself! This man has a family as well and unless you have been put in a position like his and have a mental illness as he does you don't know what the hell you are talking about! Have respect for his family because they are reading this!

There is nothing wrong with judging a person, as long as...

Posted by Mr. Sitzema, Charlevoix - Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 12:54 p.m.

you judge him/her fairly. From your few posts, I judge you to be overly emotional on this issue. You should calm down and look at the situation, that this mental caused, with an objective perspective. Am I being unfair? No.
Now, in regards your comment that Robinson should take an English class to learn to read, or use a dictionary: I submit the following.
You wrote, "And yes weather you know it or not, he has had problems for several years!!!" Your use of weather is incorrect. You should have used whether.
You wrote, You can deffend yourself all you want but the way you wrote the comment doesn't show any intention of the police reusing or selling the gun!!!!!! There is only one "f" in defend, not two. You wrote, "He has a seriouse condition that alters his decisions. They are wonderfull people and yes the whole sittuation was wrong and out of controll and I am glad that no one was hurt.." You miswrote the word serious, the word wonderful, the word situation and the word control. And you combined "do not" at least four times. I hope this helps you.

Yes.............

Posted by Victoria Baughman, Brighton - Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 2:42 p.m.

Yes the sittuation is wrong, it should have never happend and yes someone could have gotten hurt but noone did and there was no intention of anyone getting hurt besides himself. And yes weather you know it or not, he has had problems for several years!!! But you knew him as a car salesman not personaly so NO you would not have known that he had very big issues!!! And I didn't say you couldn't have a opinion on the matter, I said DONOT JUDGE!!! GOD will judge him!! And who knows, you may one day find yourself or a loved one in this sittuation, and untill then you don't know what it is like. Further more I NEVER said he was right for doing what he did and I never said you cannot have an opinion, I SAID YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO JUDGE, ONLY GOD HAS THAT RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe you should take an English class, then possibly you may learn how to read or get out a dictionary!!!!!

Shame

This all happened right by my friends house where she has 4 beautiful children. He may not have been trying to hurt anyone but himself, but thats beyond the point. He couldve hurt someone else. And I know who he is, he sold us our vehicle a couple years ago!! He didnt have much for issues then! Wonder why people defend those who r in the wrong? And, we have the right to post our opinions on this stuff. Freedom of speech.

Emotional Connection is not clouding judgment!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Victoria Baughman, Brighton, MI - Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 1:03 a.m.

My judgment is not clouded by any means. The problem is that people think they know the full story when in fact they DONOT. He did not shoot at any officer, child, adult, or any human. You have not seen the bullet holes therefore you DONOT know everything. And like I said before, allow GOD to judge, you have no right to judge because you DONOT know ALL of the facts in this case and further more you ARE NOT GOD!!!!!!!! Also, in your response to the comment about you talking about the gun, you absoloutly sounded like a complete moronic idiot, but I am not GOD therefore I will NOT JUDGE you. You can deffend yourself all you want but the way you wrote the comment doesn't show any intention of the police reusing or selling the gun!!!!!!

Emotional connection is clouding your judgement.

Posted by Mr. Sitzema, Charlevoix - Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at 3:02 p.m.

We are looking at the situation from a purely objective perspective. What he did was idiotic, whether he is suicidal or not. Please tell me how firing a pistol 10 times in the direction of the police could be misconstrued.
To Butch Snatch, Attack. Dude, seriously, you're accusing me of being a redneck with a name like that. Come on. But I do stand by the somewhat vague intent of my previous post. I will clarify it for you by saying that destroying firearms used in a crime such as this one makes no logical sense. Our police departments would be better off seizing weapons that could be used in the departments, and selling off the quality firearms to licenced FFL dealerships. Can you see the benefit of this?

I cannot believe you people!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Victoria Baughman, Brighton, MI - Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at 1:45 p.m.

I personaly know this man and his wife, in fact I have been best friends with his wife since childhood. He has a seriouse condition that alters his decisions. They are wonderfull people and yes the whole sittuation was wrong and out of controll and I am glad that no one was hurt. But in all reality he needs help and weather he has done wrong or not none of you should be calling him an idiot or anything else. Only GOD should judge us and furthure more, he was not trying to hurt anyone but himself, he was suicidal. He is not a murderer!!! Also, alot of theese papers write things when they don't have the facts 100% clear. GOD will judge him. And I feel that he needs help and that's what he should be getting. I do feel that the police handled the situation accordingly, but in all honesty he was NOT trying to hurt ANYONE but himself!!!!!!!!!

Mr. Sitzema, you sound like an idiot redneck for saying what you did. We are all dumber for having had to read that.

What a shame.

Posted by Mr. Sitzema, Charlevoix - Monday, November 09, 2009 at 10:07 a.m.

I'm glad no officers were hurt, but now because of this idiot the police will most likely destroy that well crafted revolver. If it is possible to give that Smith and Wesson a good and loving home, I'd be glad to.
