Flags to fly half-staff for fallen Mich. soldier

(AP) -- LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Gov. Jennifer Granholm has ordered that U.S. flags in Michigan be flown at half-staff to honor a soldier killed in Afghanistan. Flags should be lowered Wednesday for Army Spc. Brandon K. Steffey of Sault Ste. Marie. The 23-year-old died Oct. 25 after his vehicle was attacked with an improvised explosive device in Laghman province, Afghanistan.

He was assigned to the 178th Military Police Detachment, 89th Military Police Brigade, III Corps, Fort Hood, Texas. Steffey was a dog handler who earlier served a tour in Iraq. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at Sault Area High School.
