Across the state weatherization programs will improve about 30,000 homes over the next three years. This under a plan meant to help low-income families permanently reduce their energy bills by making their homes more energy efficient.
Friday, one family who benefited from the Genesee County Community Action Resource department's weatherization program opened up their home to show what the program has to offer.
“I’m just so grateful,” says homeowner Edwin Anderson.
He and his wife found themselves struggling after she lost her job earlier this year.
“In this economy, everyone should know about this program,” says Alline Anderson.
GCCARD’s weatherization program not only replaced insulation, drafty windows, and doors at their home. It replaced appliances such as their refrigerator and furnace with more energy efficient models at no cost.
To qualify, you must be living below the poverty level. GCCARD managers say the qualifications however continue to change. They recommend anyone struggling, who could use such improvements in their home, apply.
