VANDERBILT --

The names are now released in the fatal plane crash Tuesday night on the shoulder of the southbound lane of I-75 in Vanderbilt.

The Aeronca brand aircraft crashed around 6:30 p.m. near Sturgeon Valley Rd.  State Police say 52-year-old Patrick McNamara of Gaylord and 32-year-old Christopher Hasty of Gaylord both died from their injuries.

The first two people on the scene happened to be two off duty Michigan State Police troopers who helped get the men out of the plane. Witnesses say the plane had been circling at a low height above the interstate before the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration have both been contacted and will investigate.

I-75 was re-opened to traffic at 10 p.m. Stay tuned to 7 & 4 News for any updates.

Prayers

Posted by Michelle Haren/Priemer, Atlanta - Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 12:00 p.m.

Everyone here has gone through a terrible ordeal, all of us in small town communities. Today we need to bow our heads and say a prayer for the families, friends and co-workers of Chris Hasy and Dr. McNamara. They were outstanding human beings and will be missed by all. Rumors are unacceptable. Let the professionals handle the tragic details, the facts will be updated. Though we do not understand why loved ones leave us but they do. We can drive ourselves, but we need to just look at the man upstairs, he had a more important calling for these men, if we can believe that it will surely help our minds and hearts settle abd fry to go on. We shall learn that life can be very short and regroup how we conduct ourselves and how we treat each others in this hard time. I am a patient of Dr. McNamara's and I am sure I am one of many patients that are mourning at this time. I saw Dr. McNamara the Friday prior tpo the accident and as always he he was a wonderful, patient professional, who took his time to help me with my medical problems. I just would like to say that rumors and grossly incorrect information can cause more heartache and pain then it is worth. I am personally a survior of a tragic accident and trust me it is many years of heartache. I give my prayer's to everyone touched by this tragedy.
My loving thoughts and my heart and many prayers to these men's families.
