(AP) -- VANDERBILT, Mich. - State police say two men died after their small plane crashed while attempting to land on a northern Michigan freeway. The victims, both from Gaylord, were 52 and 32 years old. Their names weren't immediately disclosed. Sgt. Jeff Gorno says from the Gaylord post that the Aeronca two-seat plane crashed shortly before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday on northbound Interstate 75 near Vanderbilt, about 235 miles north of Detroit. He says witnesses reported seeing the plane circle the freeway before crashing along the shoulder.
The victims were taken to Otsego County Memorial Hospital, where they later died. Gorno says police aren't sure where the plane was headed, but it was registered at Gaylord Regional Airport, 10 miles southeast of the crash site.
The freeway reopened about 10 p.m.
