MORAN TWP, MACKINAC CO. (AP) -- The Michigan Department of Transportation is reopening the Cut River Bridge on U.S. Highway 2 in the Upper Peninsula.
The deck of the bridge in Mackinac County's Moran Township has been replaced after construction over two years. It was scheduled to reopen Monday.
The project originally was to take place entirely in the 2008 construction season, but MDOT postponed completion of the deck replacement project until this year. The project is expected to extend the life of the 1947 bridge.
A detour during the project added seven to 10 minutes in travel time for through-traffic.
