School leaders across Northern Michigan are making the decision to close their doors due to a high number of students out sick.
Two schools which announced closures on Monday are now extending the amount of days they will remain closed. Evart leaders made the decision Monday to close for two days, and Wednesday decided to extend their closure through the weekend, which includes any sports events.
East Jordan schools is also extending their closure through Friday. The Superintendent of East Jordan Schools says he's been working closely with the Health Department of Northwest Michigan to monitor flu conditions in the school and the area. The decision to remain closed came from another consultation with the health department. "The flu-like symptoms they're seeing are lasting longer than anticipated," Said Superintendent Chip Hansen. "So it makes sense to give our students the extra time so they can start feeling better and can return to school healthy on Monday." East Jordan schools will still hold athletic practice on Thursday and teams will continue to compete in games.
Tuesday four different districts made the decision to close for the rest of the week to clean the buildings and give students time to recuperate. Monday two districts made the decision to shut down.
