TRAVERSE CITY -- A new report rates a Grand Traverse County beach as one of the worst in the state for water quality.

Clean Water Action and The National Resources Defense Council released the report today.

It provides a 5 start rating guide for 200 of the nation's most popular beaches.

Ratings are based on the amount of contamination including human and animal waste that could make people sick.

No Michigan beach was awarded 5 stars.

Clinch Park beach in Traverse City only received 2 stars, although this year there has been no report of contamination.

City leaders have made some changes in the last few years to improve the water quality including a ban on feeding the birds.

The health department tests the water weekly for five grand traverse beaches.

This is a link to the report by the Natural Resources Defense Council. I expected the link above to bring me here, not to the weekly reports by GT County.
