If you drive on a portion of the U.S. 131 Business Route in Cadillac, you might want to think about an alternate route.

According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, the first phase of the project from Granite to Chapin Street is slated to begin Monday morning...weather permitting.

The $4.5 million project will include replacement of a railroad crossing, curb and sidewalk repair work, traffic signal upgrades, and removal and replacement of the pavement.

The first phase is expected to be finished in May and the entire 1.6 mile project is scheduled to be complete by sometime in October.
