LANSING -- Michigan House Democrats want to reward businesses that hire Michigan residents - and crack down on those that hire illegal immigrants. They're calling it the "Hire Michigan First" initiative, and legislators will be on tour in their districts on Monday to talk about the job-creation plan.
In northern Michigan - democrat Dan Scripps will be in Manistee. He says the goal is to reward companies that employ 100% Michigan workers, by offering state economic development incentives. He says businesses who hire out of state workers or illegal immigrants could lose out on state funding or be prevented from getting hired for state contracts.
Scripps will hold a public meeting Monday morning. It's set for 10:00 am at the Michigan Works office in Manistee, and the public is invited.
