People seem to always be searching for an exercise routine that is fun.One woman says she's found the key to taking the "work" out of workout and it has her going in circles.

Karen Bell says she was searching for her own way to exercise and have fun when she stumbled upon a hula hoop. "I needed to fit into a dress for my daughters wedding last year and I heard that hooping was good exercise."

While Bell was slimming down and having a ball, a business idea was growing.

"People wouldn't leave me alone," Explains Bell. "They kept wanting me to make their hoops, and then they had their hoops but didn't know how to hoop and they wanted me to show them how."

Soon "Hoopin' For The Health Of It" was born, an unexpected business venture for the Traverse City mom.

"I've had to ride this wave, it's forced me into a business," Says Bell. "I didn't wake up one day and say I think I'm going to have a hoopin' business, nothing could have been more bizarre in my life than this. This is a real deal, we watch people whittle down right before our eyes every week."

While Bell works to inspire Northern Michigan to get active, Bell says she's inspired by those taking part.

"Life is about relationships, and this totally enhances the wall flowers that start out in our class in the corners and were like come on and slowly bring them out and then you watch them literally blossom in realizing they can do it. The only thing I can think of calling it is empowering."
