LEELANAU CO. -- A rare mistake may force hundreds of absentee voters to refill out their ballots, and it comes with a hefty price for a Northern Michigan county.

The Leelanau County Clerk's Office has already sent out August 7th Primary absentee ballots. The problem is that it doesn't include one of the millages.

Michelle Crocker, the clerk says it was an honest mistake. Even after several eyes looked over the ballots, the road commission's .5 mills renewel levy never made it on.

Crocker says about 800 voters will be receiving new ballots in the mail over the next few days along with a letter explaining the problem.

Absentee voters will be able to recast the entire ballot.

The reprint will cost the county about $5,000.

If you have questions call the Leelanau County Clerk's Office at 231-256-9824.
