During a city council meeting Monday night, residents voiced their concerns on the Petoskey Pointe Project site and council members finally agreed on a deadline.
EMMET COUNTY -- An ongoing issue in one northern Michigan community involving a multi-million dollar project has been the hot topic over the past few years. but Monday night, a final deadline for the Petoskey Pointe project was approved during a city council meeting.
The massive hole that sits in downtown Petoskey will finally be home to a hotel, condominiums and an underground parking garage, now that an extension deadline was granted.
During the meeting residents had a chance to voice their concerns on the progress of the project. but at the end of the meeting, city council members finally granted an extension to the original deadline at the request of the developer, to December 31, 2009.
7&4 News spoke with the Petoskey mayor before the meeting and he said the developers were simply waiting for a response from the city.
"The developers are not in default in any of the arguments at this point, so it's not imperative, it's not like it's a death wish if we don't do anything at this point, but certainly developers are looking for some type of response from the city council at this time," says Mayor Dale Meyer.
And that response was given Monday night. Part of that agreement between developers and the city includes proof of finances and a construction start date from the Lake Street Petoskey Associates. The reason the project was delayed is because the developer did not have financing, which they now claim to have.
The developers were not present at Monday night's city council meeting, instead the meeting primarily focused on the residents' questions and a final deadline agreement from the city council.
