BRIGHTON, Mich. (AP) - The Department of Natural Resources and Environment is seeking volunteers to help protect southeast Michigan state parks and recreation areas.
The state says volunteers are needed to help hand-pull garlic mustard, an invasive plant that stifles tree growth. The first volunteer day this month is Saturday at Island Lake Recreation Area in Livingston County.
More work days are planned for later this month at other locations. A full list is available on the state's Web site.
Volunteers are asked to bring appropriate clothing for outdoor work, including long pants, boots, gloves, eye protection and drinking water. They're also asked to register ahead of time using an online form.
