(AP) -- The Associated Press says Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero is joining the Democratic race for governor.
Bernero joins fellow Democrat State Representative Alma Wheeler Smith. Other possible Democratic candidates include House Speaker Andy Dillon, University of Michigan Regent Denise Ilitch, former State Treasurer Robert Bowman, and former Genesee County Treasurer Dan Kildee.
The Republican side includes Attorney General Mike Cox, Ann Arbor computer pioneer millionaire Rick Snyder, State Senator Tom George, Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard, and Congressman Pete Hoekstra.
